The new White Paper, 'Fairness for All: A New Commission for Equality and Human Rights' has been published by the UK Department of Trade & Industry. The paper describes the vision, role, functions and powers of the proposed new Commission, which will help achieve a fairer, more inclusive Britain. The Highland LGBT Forum has submitted a response to the consultation.

The Deputy Minister for Social Justice, Hugh Henry, was questioned by the Equal Opportunities Committee on issues arising from the consultation in November 2002. The Official Report of that meeting is available on the Equal Opportunities Committee page of the Parliament web site.
Since 1st December 2003, it is illegal for employers to
discriminate against someone because of their sexual orientation. ACAS have
produced some useful guidance for employers and staff on how the new

is the result of questionnaires completed by 57 LGBT organisations and ancillary services. Published by Beyond Barriers in 2003.

The survey covers discriminatory attitudes towards lesbian and gay people
(apparently the researchers considered it was not feasible to ask about attitudes towards bisexual and transgender people), as well as discrimination on grounds of ethnicity, disability and gender.

Counted Out: the first-ever survey of LGB people in Wales. Carried out by Stonewall Cymru with Cardiff University, this involved interviews with over 350 LGB people across Wales. Published in October 2003.
